Burp… (excuse me….)

August 20th, 2006 by franki

For sometime, I’ve had some appreciation on different foods.
Foods that are worth craving and looking for. Just now, I’ve thought of writing some of my
food verdicts and experiences. Enjoy!

Fresh Lumpia - Globe
(Raon St.,Manila)

Lumpiang_ubod_small

This shop was featured on some tv shows like Charlene’s At Home ka dito and
Susan’s Kay Susan tayo. Accessibility is not that easy because of Quiapo church-produced
traffic, parking is a problem for the tsikoteers, security is also a problem
for the richkids. hehe, everything is actually a problem. Located along the
street of electrical stores, Raon street is a place where you expect snatchers,
holduppers and such. Good thing it’s located just beside the foot of the overpass on the
quiapo bound <Name of road here> Road. So an fx or jeepney ride will do.

What do you expect from this shop? Tasty, fresh and deliciously done lumpia.
It’s fairly priced @16php/order by the time I took a visit. Nothing special with the
small dining area, wooden benches, tables mounted on the wall and electric fans
(special, if you find it unique - hehe for the richkids).
On order of a fresh lumpia, you’re supplied with the plate, a spoon with a hole
bored in it and a fork. The fancy spoon caught my attention. Haha! What were
they thinking? Boring a hole for what?! Anyway highway, sauces and other
condiments are available meters away from you.

Dining Area: 2 of 5 spoons
Cleanliness: 2 of 5 spoons (seems clean to me)
Food: 4 of 5 spoons (worth the hassle)
Price: 5 of 5 spoons (cheapo for a fresh lumpia)

Magic Waffle
(Dapitan St, Manila)

Img_1354

Located near UST, it’s just hurdles away from the Highschool building Dapitan
gate exit.  There’s nothing special with
the waffle. Tastes like generic waffles (if you know Waffle time, you’ll know
what i mean)
. Caters waffles stuffed with anything you can think of (edible of
course)
. But here’s the deal, you get a pair of cheese waffles for 10php! Beat
that! Comment on my post if you find a better deal hehe. Not to mention, it’s
open 24/7! I can’t give a review on other waffles because the other waffles are
too expensive for me. Hehe. (If you’re willing to purchase one for me, I’ll
gladly make a critic).

Here’s the drawback, you get a freshly "reheated" waffle if you buy
one during the wee hours. Hehe! Other than that, it’s a good deal.

Freshness: 3 of 5 spoons (depends on the time of the day)
Price: 5 of 5 spoons (student friendly deal)

Ma Mon Luk Mami House
(Near Quiapo Church)

Spicybeef

It is located walks away from the Quiapo church parallel to that same
avenue(forgot the road) and intersecting the electrical shop capital of Manila,
Raon st.

Along the walkway/sidewalk, you won’t  really notice this restaurant
because it doesn’t have those eye-catching signages et al. so you must  be
a keen observer for you not to miss this restaurant. Upon entering the
open-walled(no walls or glass separate the sidewalk from the resto, only few
steps separate it
) restaurant, you’d be greeted with alot of articles framed
and hung on the wall. Each of which give praise to the restaurant for its success,
food, etc.

I am not really a fan of mami’s and the likes. My brother is the one curious
if the food there is great based from some stories (he must have seen it
featured on some shows)
.
Ambience of the shop feels eerie because of the old seats, seasoned wooden wall
sidings, old chinito waiters, squeaky ceiling fans,  an almost visible
dishwashing area (through the small opening), untidy kitchen (yup, part of the
food preparations can be seen from the dining area)
and slippery marble
flooring.

We ordered what was supposedly their flagship or should I say boasted food from
the articles posted on the wall, we ordered 3 Beef Mami @95php (spoiler: we
thought it tasted great because of its price but *****), some siopao (bola bola
and asado)
@60php++ if my memory serves me right and a glass of soda from their
dispensers with lots of ice (*tsk didn’t even come in bottles or in cans, poor sanitation and wrong way of skimping overhead expenses*).

Orders came and we didn’t wait for the siopao and tried the beef mami outright
because it’s 2pm and we’re hungry. Sheeeesh! The soup of the mami tasted like stinky pair of socks soaked in hot water.. Yuck! Beef meat tasted great though.
It had alot of canton as if it was a "Canton Mami" and not a
"Beef Mami".

The hassle and yucky food cost us an arm and a leg… around 500php for 3 persons.
Should have eaten bucket chicken meal from KFC! potek.

Never ever try this Mami House, please! At least we tried it for you mami
lovers.(alala kita bernard- mami lover) hehe!OR, hindi lang siguro ko Mami fanatic.

Food: 0 of 5 spoons
Place: 1 of 5 spoons
Cleanliness: 0 of 5 spoons (I’ve seen the way they wash their glasses… sabon
konti then banlaw, yay kadiri!)

Price: 0 of 5 spoons (it could be a good deal if the food tasted great but we
felt like we were robbed.)

Mr. Kabab’s Shawarma
(Quezon ave cor West Ave)

Shawarmabeef_1

Accessibility is not a problem going to Kabab since its on a major road.
Parking is a problem though with only few slots provided for its tens of
patrons and you need to be a superman to park on the maze-like entry and exit
points. Upon reaching the resto, expect minutes of waiting outside the resto
for seats during lunch/dinner/merienda time. (pro: lalo ka magugutom hehe)

Their shawarma tastes really great. The garlic sauce and hot sauce is a very
good match for their freshly done yummy shawarma’s. It’s a steal for only 55++php.
Comes with the standard heated bread, crispy veggies and tasty beef! Hehe. Unlike
other ordinary shawarma found in food stalls, this shawarma is heavily stuffed
with beef and toppings from top to bottom. If you get carried away, you might
even forget to remove the paper wrapped around the shawarma and mistakenly
consider it as part of the bread and eat it. Hehe!

Ambience is ok but is a bit dark at night with all the semi-direct
mood lightings. Nakakaantok ang feeling when eating. It’s perfect for dates,
hehe. I look good pag madilim. Hehe. It’s an open-air type resto with small
tables in it. Tables good for 4 forced to accommodate 6! (Parang jeepney
potek.. hehe
). Also, the muslims, bumbays and celebrities abound the resto. As they say,
dinadayo talaga.

The only annoying part is when the guard pages the plate
number of your car blocking the exit/entry of other customers while eating.
Hehe..

Food: 5 of 5 spoons (currently my favorite shawarma)
Place: 4 of 5 spoons (seems clean to me)
Service: 3 of 5 spoons (waiters don’t respond very well when their attention is called)

Whew!

August 11th, 2006 by franki

Alas! The pressure of the first major plate is gone (Hehe, but the deadline for the second plate is weeks away. Good thing it’s a group work). The preliminary exams is almost over (Professional practice lang naman talaga ang mahirap… Sheesh, matinding memorization ng LAWS yun last night).

***
I was able to go home early this afternoon after the PP exams, luku si Palisoc, he did’nt attend our scheduled prelims.
On my way home, i took an fx ride, since the sun is at full blast. While inside the Fx(it’s an adventure.. hehe), I can’t help myself but to notice this pretty girl seated beside the driver. The next thing i knw, the driver is already hitting on the girl.(Haha, i also noticed the driver "hitting on" the girl’s knee whenever he shifts gears.. Literal… Haha, menyek ang mokong!  The sport girl just shrugs it off with a smile..) Hihi, reminds me of the old school local movies.. Err.. Sharon, Maricel movies.. haha…

Hehe, tindi ng imagination ko, must have been watching alot of teleserye…. lol!

***
Despite the busy schedule, Miko, Owen, Mark, James and I went to the Johnnie Walker Racing party last weekend. We had alot of fun, yeah, good crowd volume and nice upbeat music. We got disappointed the moment we knew that we’re only limited to two shots of drink(kala namin, malalashing kami). Moments after, we moved to pier one- the fort to continue the party.. lol

I just got home from school. Another petiks weekend for me. I Should’ve been
doing my drawing stuffs(due on the 22nd) tonight and sleeping late, but i do
have lame excuses not to! Haha… I don’t have my drawing table here at
home(valenzuela), dinala ko kasi sa dorm. :D

It’s been a cold showery week and all-over were class suspensions! I just
love not going to class. Haha! Three days of bumming(Wednesday to Friday) and I
can still afford to laugh and relax. But slowly, pressure and guilt is starting to build
up on me. Arrrrgh! Kayanin ko pa kaya ang sangkatutak na drawings?! I only have
schematic plans on hand….(Sorry to those non-arki peeps)

+++

I haven’t posted here lately though a lot of blog-worthy stuffs should have
been posted. I don’t have enough time since I am busy relaxing and I seldom go
online because we don’t have internet access(dorm) and I don’t feel like
spending my food money just to check my mails, post, etc..

Also, I am having second thoughts on posting… Kakahiya kasi talaga.  Since I already have some “following” (haha,
almost everyone on my friend’s list receive mail notifications whenever I update
my blog!
) Kaya no choice kayo, you get informed if my blog gets updated even if
you delete the mail outright. Haha…

+++

I went to Mark’s birthday last week, it was good. Almost everyone’s(HS friends) present. Good food, music, and unlimited karaoke! lol! BTW, I’ve stopped
insisting myself to her. Kung wag, di wag.  Though I admit gustu ko siya. :D

+++

Tang-ina, I had a couple of anonymous quote texters and one “share-a-loader”
this week and its annoying me. Wala lang, though I don’t care about it, I just can’t
help myself not to mull over it.

+++

As always, kakapikon pa din ang design class namin. Too much freedom, and less pressure kaya petiks masyado. Ang pangit…..
Prof Alli: "You may have your lunch if you havent eaten yet"
"You may not consult and submit your works if you are confident with it"
"I’ll let you sign this yellow paper for attendance, i’ll be back by 3pm for attendance verification, afterwhich, you may opt to work or leave the class"

Turbo post din pala to, expect tens of typo’s…

:D

Last Hurrah

June 11th, 2006 by franki

Another summer wasted and  I gained nothing.  I did’nt enroll in any summer class(well shortcourses i.e. autocadd again, photoshop, viz, etc.) nor did’nt even dare to open architectural stuffies.

wait wait wait… academically, zero…. but emotionally, socially and summer-ish moments… a little bit above ok… :D

I ended my vacation by going to malls. I was able to visit the malls for like every other day. Usual for some but its already a feat to me. Haha.. Loser talaga..

I am almost ready for my new dormy dormy life. New set of pc, closet, boxes full of junk(oh, that’s my drawing tools),  entry level 5.1 speakers for pleasured dvd  watching and music listening and my new shrinked uniforms! lol

Haha.. Change image… ala- macho gwapito? lol

Some minor problems though.. We don’t have a fridge, microwave and stove. But who needs them if no-one has the talent to cook. (raises hand: i can fry anything! lol) i just hope i could bring with me the water dispenser. On the entertainment part, no tv sets also.. Sheesh.. i hope it wouldnt be a boring stay.

Oops, i almost forgot! I still dont have a place to set my matress. i mean, the other guy moving out of the house that i am about to replace will take the upper half of the double deck!(yes its detachable, hi-technology). So if its already out, i might not be able to find the same double deck to buy the upper half and put it on top of the other. Stupid.. haha.. I am having a hard time negotiating with this guy, arrgh… Pay a premium for a used bed? tsk tsk…

Best way is to dispose the lower half also and get a new double deck, we cant afford to have single beds, space is a problem. A new double deck costs an arm and a leg.. ouchy.. ang mahal.

Enough of the dorm episode.

Just came home from geof’s birthday party. Party? Is a party considered a party if theres only 3 of you present? lol…. Myself, carina and nilo were there at geof’s place. It was a late invitation(kakagulat, wala kasing pasabi.. that afternoon gustu nya andun kami ng gabi). Its a sunday and i wasnt able to attend mass because of the event. Sorry papa jesus. :D

i enjoyed the party or should i say the date with carina.. lol!
Mark wasnt able to go because ochi, his girl, surprised him, though he confirmed he’s coming.(yep, its their anniv.) It turned out well, hit the lrt 2 and waited for geof at gateway. I thought  "masosolo"(sorry sa term haha..) ko na si nina for that night…(selfish mode initialized) Geof saw nilo at the mall and invited him over.

My vacation’s last hurrah was definitely a blast! I had a good time with nina, talked alot. But still, hints arent too clear. Be it a big turn down or not. Sheesh… Anyway, am really happy to be with her.. the smiles, the stares… aw…nakakatunaw  :D

As of post time, i still remember everything, as if it happened seconds ago. Aaaaaah…
Wishfully thinking i’d see her soon for a follow-up.. lol

OT: Hi aki! What about a movie?

Back to school.. :c

June 5th, 2006 by franki

Whew, 2 months of bumming and piggin out is over and i don’t feel like going to school yet. I must have enjoyed watching tv and movies for hours, going out to parties and staying up late but at the same time sleeping for more than 8 hours daily! Honestly, i just don’t want to think i’d be there in ust again, having toooo much pressure from my academics. Arrgh.. the plates… lol!

Also, i have these contrasting emotions. I am excited too! Excited because, i am about to experience living without my family. Dormy dormy life!!! Well at least not seeing them for only a week, because i need to go home or meet my mom for my laundries and funds.

Its a make or break situation for me.. either i go uber sipag or initialize batugan mode. hmmm… but i know myself, i’d definitely go uber sipag! lolz! Self-proclaimed masipag… haha!

I have plans tooo… gym(haha, the flabs.. ehem.. abs)… good plates(for me to have good sample works when applying for work, too bad i only realized it’s purpose now. I’ll try not to be an as long as i have something to pass-and-i am done-i don’t care about my grades type of student.)

I saw our class schedule. Its way way better than the previous semester, having long vacants and irregular schedules.(morning classes today, the next day, afternoon classes)

Transhow Summer 2006 (Megamall)

May 2nd, 2006 by franki

Mood: Sleepy
I hear: nothing

Saturday afternoon and i’m off to megamall. I was very excited to see the show kasi sa pictures pa lang from some forums, nakakatulo laway na agad. So i prepared my batteries for my cheapo but ever reliable digicam early morning and brought it with me to megamall. I took a bus ride to the mrt station, whew, ang init sobra. Then bought a ticket(shaw nabili ko dapat ortigas for some reasons, natanga ko) and took the train. As always, dun ako sumakay sa fave spot ko sa north ave station(yung spot na upon entering the ticket gate, may column na sakto sa tapat ng train doors). It was a good ride, until sumakay from quizon ave ata yung 2 cono(kuhn-yo) people. Hey, di naman beach ang train right? Why wear those boardshorts and retro porma shades? Ganda naman yung girl na kasama nung guy, tangkad, pero turn off ako sa matatangkad eh. :D

So bumaba na ako sa shaw station, anak ng tipaklong! Sabi ko na mali binili ko ticket(later found out same price lang pala for ortigas and shaw stations). hehe! Ang layo ng nilakad ko! Mga 400 meters din siguro yon. Ang init! Pero the heat of the sun and my stupidity did’nt ruin my day. Syempre ayoko humarap sa girls na badtrip(errrr… feeling pogi initialized). Si turbo allan ang kasama ko that day together with the talyer boys. Late na sila dadating so intay ko na lang text niya. So i took my meryenda, kain muna and konting fruit juice.

Bought my ticket and went inside the megatrade hall. (read: aba, di ko agad nahanap yung hall, bihira kasi ako mapadpad sa gamol, ang layo. Nasa kabilang building pala yun.) So what do you expect from the carshow? Cars! Cars! Cars! Pero ang totoong buhay ng carshow eh galing sa mga h0t promo girls. Here are some pictures i took. (kainis wala ako kasama, naipit sa traffic sila allan, wala tuloy magpicture sa akin with the girls.)

Sorry, puro girls lang yan, you may want to hit google for car searches. hehe.

As promised, eto pics ng mga girls.

Getting old feeling….

April 25th, 2006 by franki

Mood: Sad
I hear: PBB-TE theme

Four days from now, i’ll bid goodbye to my teeny bopper years. Yes, 20 years old na ako by the end of the month. I’ve had mixed sad and happy experiences. Kasi i have frequent heartburns that kept on remindin me malapit na ako mamatay. :c

Nakakalungkot, i’ve been through alot of relationships pero i can’t seem to find the right girl for me. I got my heart broken once when i had my first. It gave me everything, it taught me everything, it made me who i am today. Relationships past the first i can say were all good memories. (read: am not saying the first wasnt ha… masaya din naman ako nun, di ko nga lang na-prove ng maigi sarili ko.. err.. noob pa when it comes to relationships)

Recently, i fell out of love. Yeah, kakalungkot. You always hear this line sa mga movies and teen flicks. Even me myself was’nt a believer(kasi parang di sapat yung reason na yun) ’til naramdaman ko din. On a girl’s perspective, isipin lang nila, may ipapalit ka na better than the current. Pero that’s not what am planning. I just realized this is not what i want though it may be what i needed(selfish mode initialized). You wake up and have the same routine, find it very boring, eventually fall out of love. Arrrgh.. Finally, you’ll call it quits because the spark and magic is gone. I tried to re-kindle pero wala talaga. :c  Ooops. stop na ako, cheesy na! :D

This could be one of my most unhappy birthday. I don’t know, madel and i parted ways pero we’re in good terms naman. We had a good closure. I lost a girlfriend, but instantaneously, i had new bestie that won’t leave me.

:D

Getting re-united

April 20th, 2006 by franki

Last monday was definitely a blast. Me and my highschool friends from mapua got reunited because of a not so good ocassion. Hey, its a funeral! Haha, we were busy catching up on each other’s life while the family kept on mourning. We went there for Dhavy, Gean’s lil sister who committed suicide, for some reasons, they opted not to divulge. Could have been about love life, family or just plain political issues. Lol.

I was very very happy seeing almost all my friends. oh, they still look the same. We did alot of catching up since its been ages, the last time we saw each other. we’ve been saying and hearing "dude, kumusta ka na?"
"How’s architecture?"
"How’s Engineering?"

Haaay.. i miss highschool. Hopefully there’d be a follow up sometime this week or next week. Perfect because everyone seems to be bored, and the mapua guys are still on their orientation.
hey, a movie or a swimming won’t hurt!

I even had a chance to talk to my highschool crush. Yeah, she’s still pretty and sexy(morena type). Also, another girl(maputi with a strong personality) i like which i confessed na nanghihinayang ako, i ignored her feelings back then(well, i gave way for my friend, pero la din nangyari. Guess we were young then). I just cant decode their signals. Ehem.. You know me, am the torpedo type no hint-from girl-no move-too bad-i’d be single type of guy.

After a year of not using my ten-piece trusty kurecolors, finally got them back from Brian. Err.. Good thing dala na niya. I managed to survive two semesters without it. But my plates definitely suffered. Kaya most of the time, i used autocad for my presentations. Ouch! (Did i hear my wallet?) Ang mahal ng printing (me says to myself when am at joli’s printing my work "anak ng tipaklong, sayang pera ang pangit ng gawa ko, kahit naka autocad or indi pareho grade nito malamang") Been planning to add at least one to my ten piece collection. i wont mind if my blockmates would give me one each as a birthday present.

Happy Easter!

April 16th, 2006 by franki

Again, I greeted easter by going late to mass this morning (salubong). I slept at around 1 in the morning after watching some documentaries from GMA. Its really an eye - opener to the current condition of our country.

I did’nt have a good - early morning sleep. Since i was late during the last easter celebration(its very important dahil sakristan mode ako), i had my alarm clock set by 4am, time by which the procession will start, just enough time to prepare(sa mass kasi ako serve). Eto nangyari:

3 times ako nagising! Isa ng 2am, 3am, 3.30am! Next thing i knew was it was already 4:50am! Way way past the time i have set my alarm clock! I hurried to the bathroom and did my thing, i had a hard time putting my stupid contacts(haha! read it right, stupid contacts, di ako ha). Took me another 5 minutes. (For a pro, should take about 3 tries only). Panu ba naman, tarantang taranta na ako. I ended up late, waiting for the program to end(wishfully thinking may break ng konti for me to join my other sakristan buddies before the start of the celebration). Too bad, naipit ako ng crowd. Whew… Sama nanaman ng loob ko sa sarili ko. :c

About my OJT:
Am having a hard time getting this job. They’re demanding too many requirements. Been going to their office and back to the university and its killin me. Grabe, everytime i go there, lagi na lang may mali(ay iho, you still need this. please accomplish din form also.. grrr). The only thing i need for me to start the apprenticeship is the "specific number of hours" which the university does not require kaya they cant provide/sign it. I told the HR i’ll just work for them this summer but i dont seem to convince him. Kailangan may pirma ng registrar/practicum coordinator. Panu nga mangyayari yun eh wala na nga practicum sa Arki! Pota, that guy is a poser!
By thursay, resume na ang office nila. I’d be calling them first thing in the morning to ask if i can work despite the difficulties presenting the requirements(errrr.. walang ojt class sa amin kaya they cant give the duration).

Aba! Kung ayaw nyo, wag nyo! :D

Enough of the bad start…
After some years of talking to my relatives via phone, at last, we got to know internet(haha, inter- what?) and started chatting and calling. Thanks to the messenger. Haha.. Ignorance talaga.
They hurried themselves to the mall to get a new mic and camera.. HAHA. Now, pati mom ko kalaban ko sa pc! CERTIFIED CHATTER!

Off topic rant:
I hate those motorcyles buzz when braking! HEllo Riceboys!

To gino, lev and owen, my BT groupmates:
Am sorry if i wasnt able to perform well this semester. i know i could have done better if i wasnt too complacent. Alam ko kasi magagaling kayu, kaya nag petiks ako. Another thing is, late lagi ako. Sorry at di ako naging mabuting groupmate.
:c

Dilemma:
Am having a hard time deciding if mag-dorm ako or mag-stay pa din sa bahay.
Am considering the next semester’s schedule if masyado busy to go home.
I also just want to try and know the feeling. My fear is i’d have a hard time juggling the two:  studying and at the same time taking care of myself. Imagine, thinking about  my dinner, lunch and my laundries. Not to mention demanding subjects that would require tens of drawings.. Isa pa eh, walang pc sa dorm, if madala ko naman pc dito sa bahay, parang i cant live without the internet, tapos, yung DSL has already reached our shores, kaya another factor! Been wishing to have broadband internet since then, wow, sarap mag online games nun! T”would help me alot in my academics!

pag board exam na, minalas-malas

mahirap mang isipin, pero masaya to.
bakit? ewan.
basta, ARKI ako.
