Burp… (excuse me….)

Sunday, August 20th, 2006

For sometime, I’ve had some appreciation on different foods.
Foods that are worth craving and looking for. Just now, I’ve thought of writing some of my
food verdicts and experiences. Enjoy!

Fresh Lumpia - Globe
(Raon St.,Manila)

Lumpiang_ubod_small

This shop was featured on some tv shows like Charlene’s At Home ka dito and
Susan’s Kay Susan tayo. Accessibility is not that easy because of Quiapo church-produced
traffic, parking is a problem for the tsikoteers, security is also a problem
for the richkids. hehe, everything is actually a problem. Located along the
street of electrical stores, Raon street is a place where you expect snatchers,
holduppers and such. Good thing it’s located just beside the foot of the overpass on the
quiapo bound <Name of road here> Road. So an fx or jeepney ride will do.

What do you expect from this shop? Tasty, fresh and deliciously done lumpia.
It’s fairly priced @16php/order by the time I took a visit. Nothing special with the
small dining area, wooden benches, tables mounted on the wall and electric fans
(special, if you find it unique - hehe for the richkids).
On order of a fresh lumpia, you’re supplied with the plate, a spoon with a hole
bored in it and a fork. The fancy spoon caught my attention. Haha! What were
they thinking? Boring a hole for what?! Anyway highway, sauces and other
condiments are available meters away from you.

Dining Area: 2 of 5 spoons
Cleanliness: 2 of 5 spoons (seems clean to me)
Food: 4 of 5 spoons (worth the hassle)
Price: 5 of 5 spoons (cheapo for a fresh lumpia)

Magic Waffle
(Dapitan St, Manila)

Img_1354

Located near UST, it’s just hurdles away from the Highschool building Dapitan
gate exit.  There’s nothing special with
the waffle. Tastes like generic waffles (if you know Waffle time, you’ll know
what i mean)
. Caters waffles stuffed with anything you can think of (edible of
course)
. But here’s the deal, you get a pair of cheese waffles for 10php! Beat
that! Comment on my post if you find a better deal hehe. Not to mention, it’s
open 24/7! I can’t give a review on other waffles because the other waffles are
too expensive for me. Hehe. (If you’re willing to purchase one for me, I’ll
gladly make a critic).

Here’s the drawback, you get a freshly "reheated" waffle if you buy
one during the wee hours. Hehe! Other than that, it’s a good deal.

Freshness: 3 of 5 spoons (depends on the time of the day)
Price: 5 of 5 spoons (student friendly deal)

Ma Mon Luk Mami House
(Near Quiapo Church)

Spicybeef

It is located walks away from the Quiapo church parallel to that same
avenue(forgot the road) and intersecting the electrical shop capital of Manila,
Raon st.

Along the walkway/sidewalk, you won’t  really notice this restaurant
because it doesn’t have those eye-catching signages et al. so you must  be
a keen observer for you not to miss this restaurant. Upon entering the
open-walled(no walls or glass separate the sidewalk from the resto, only few
steps separate it
) restaurant, you’d be greeted with alot of articles framed
and hung on the wall. Each of which give praise to the restaurant for its success,
food, etc.

I am not really a fan of mami’s and the likes. My brother is the one curious
if the food there is great based from some stories (he must have seen it
featured on some shows)
.
Ambience of the shop feels eerie because of the old seats, seasoned wooden wall
sidings, old chinito waiters, squeaky ceiling fans,  an almost visible
dishwashing area (through the small opening), untidy kitchen (yup, part of the
food preparations can be seen from the dining area)
and slippery marble
flooring.

We ordered what was supposedly their flagship or should I say boasted food from
the articles posted on the wall, we ordered 3 Beef Mami @95php (spoiler: we
thought it tasted great because of its price but *****), some siopao (bola bola
and asado)
@60php++ if my memory serves me right and a glass of soda from their
dispensers with lots of ice (*tsk didn’t even come in bottles or in cans, poor sanitation and wrong way of skimping overhead expenses*).

Orders came and we didn’t wait for the siopao and tried the beef mami outright
because it’s 2pm and we’re hungry. Sheeeesh! The soup of the mami tasted like stinky pair of socks soaked in hot water.. Yuck! Beef meat tasted great though.
It had alot of canton as if it was a "Canton Mami" and not a
"Beef Mami".

The hassle and yucky food cost us an arm and a leg… around 500php for 3 persons.
Should have eaten bucket chicken meal from KFC! potek.

Never ever try this Mami House, please! At least we tried it for you mami
lovers.(alala kita bernard- mami lover) hehe!OR, hindi lang siguro ko Mami fanatic.

Food: 0 of 5 spoons
Place: 1 of 5 spoons
Cleanliness: 0 of 5 spoons (I’ve seen the way they wash their glasses… sabon
konti then banlaw, yay kadiri!)

Price: 0 of 5 spoons (it could be a good deal if the food tasted great but we
felt like we were robbed.)

Mr. Kabab’s Shawarma
(Quezon ave cor West Ave)

Shawarmabeef_1

Accessibility is not a problem going to Kabab since its on a major road.
Parking is a problem though with only few slots provided for its tens of
patrons and you need to be a superman to park on the maze-like entry and exit
points. Upon reaching the resto, expect minutes of waiting outside the resto
for seats during lunch/dinner/merienda time. (pro: lalo ka magugutom hehe)

Their shawarma tastes really great. The garlic sauce and hot sauce is a very
good match for their freshly done yummy shawarma’s. It’s a steal for only 55++php.
Comes with the standard heated bread, crispy veggies and tasty beef! Hehe. Unlike
other ordinary shawarma found in food stalls, this shawarma is heavily stuffed
with beef and toppings from top to bottom. If you get carried away, you might
even forget to remove the paper wrapped around the shawarma and mistakenly
consider it as part of the bread and eat it. Hehe!

Ambience is ok but is a bit dark at night with all the semi-direct
mood lightings. Nakakaantok ang feeling when eating. It’s perfect for dates,
hehe. I look good pag madilim. Hehe. It’s an open-air type resto with small
tables in it. Tables good for 4 forced to accommodate 6! (Parang jeepney
potek.. hehe
). Also, the muslims, bumbays and celebrities abound the resto. As they say,
dinadayo talaga.

The only annoying part is when the guard pages the plate
number of your car blocking the exit/entry of other customers while eating.
Hehe..

Food: 5 of 5 spoons (currently my favorite shawarma)
Place: 4 of 5 spoons (seems clean to me)
Service: 3 of 5 spoons (waiters don’t respond very well when their attention is called)

Whew!

Friday, August 11th, 2006

Alas! The pressure of the first major plate is gone (Hehe, but the deadline for the second plate is weeks away. Good thing it’s a group work). The preliminary exams is almost over (Professional practice lang naman talaga ang mahirap… Sheesh, matinding memorization ng LAWS yun last night).

***
I was able to go home early this afternoon after the PP exams, luku si Palisoc, he did’nt attend our scheduled prelims.
On my way home, i took an fx ride, since the sun is at full blast. While inside the Fx(it’s an adventure.. hehe), I can’t help myself but to notice this pretty girl seated beside the driver. The next thing i knw, the driver is already hitting on the girl.(Haha, i also noticed the driver "hitting on" the girl’s knee whenever he shifts gears.. Literal… Haha, menyek ang mokong!  The sport girl just shrugs it off with a smile..) Hihi, reminds me of the old school local movies.. Err.. Sharon, Maricel movies.. haha…

Hehe, tindi ng imagination ko, must have been watching alot of teleserye…. lol!

Despite the busy schedule, Miko, Owen, Mark, James and I went to the Johnnie Walker Racing party last weekend. We had alot of fun, yeah, good crowd volume and nice upbeat music. We got disappointed the moment we knew that we’re only limited to two shots of drink(kala namin, malalashing kami). Moments after, we moved to pier one- the fort to continue the party.. lol
